New Native - Behind The Song #1 - "Nothing More"

New Native, our best (and only) pals from Austria, have just started a new Facebook series in which they go super duper, mega, well...they go in depth into what each of their songs are about and the process it took to create them. This week's is about their song "Nothing More", which is one of my personal favorites off of their SOUL CULT 12" EP, available now in the Anchor Eighty Four webstore HERE.

Behind the Song #1 – "Nothing More"

The basic idea for "Nothing More" dates back to the Twisting recording sessions. A week or two after we had tracked the record, I brought the verse and chorus to practice and we worked out most of the song right away. Thinking back, it kind of bummed us out that we couldn't include the song on the first record just because it was written so close to the sessions.

We're really happy how the song eventually turned out. We initially demo'd two versions of the song....

Originally self-released by the band on CD format in 2010, Heart to Heart created a collection of raw and emotionally aggressive music in the form of what is now their Impressions EP. It was this EP that caught our attention, and soon lead us to release Heart to Heart's 'Deathproof' 7inch and their infamous Self Titled full-length LP on Anchor Eighty Four Records. We are proud to once again join forces with Heart to Heart to re-release 'Impressions' on limited cassette!

Unconditional Arms

Jeffrey Wright, of Unconditional Arms, shares his thoughts on Minnow's "Vacation Forever"  -  "Minnow is a group of people who are committed to the artistry of creation. Aside from the fact that we discuss literally everything on a daily basis in our infamous group text, getting to know the members of the band on a personal note has brought all of us so much joy. They're truly just on the same wavelength as us in many aspects of music, life and love. 'Vacation Forever' is a slight departure from their earlier released music, but the discordant instrumentation blooms into a true "minnow-feel" when Onate adds his Broken Social Scene flair and the 2nd guitar slides it's way into the composition. As O'Hara belts some of his most intelligible and intriguing prose yet, I'm left to feel really only one thing - a warm sense of happiness and joy, like I've been on Vacation Forever. It's some of their best work and I'm sure it's just a taste of what they have planned for the future.

We feel privileged to share this a moment with Minnow and hope to stay in each other's lives for a great while - musically and personally. Very thankful to A84 for making it happen in such a unique way."

“This album is about things that haunt us,” vocalist Collin Walsh tells “It is about life altering events and changes that keep us awake for hours on end,” Walsh describes of the album. “Bad things happen for a good reason, right? If that's the case, then why does it never feel that way?”

"”August Love” is about a dream I had right after meeting someone very special,” says vocalist Collin Walsh. “It’s crazy how your mind can wander; creating scenarios and fears that don’t even exist yet because of things that have happened in the past. This is kind of a depiction of what happened in the dream. The content of the song is supposed to reflect the pace and status of how the relationship started strong and ended bitter in my head."

November 19, 2015 – Los Angeles, CA – Philly alt-rock/pop-punk band Grayscale has partnered with today to premiere a video for their brand new song “Palette.” The track is featured on the band’s upcoming record, What We’re Missing, which will be released on February 12th via Anchor Eighty Four Records. The album is now available for pre-order at

““Palette” is about feeling shut out or left behind from a relationship,” says vocalist Collin Walsh. “As the song progresses, the lyrics turn into a “realization” that the ending of the relationship was for the better. There are silver linings in everything, it just takes some time for them to surface.”

Blending pure, raw emotion with elements of alternative rock and punk roots, Grayscale has spent the past four years crafting their own unique loud and catchy sound. Delving into their deepest personal thoughts and experiences, lyricists Walsh and Dallas Molster call it as they see it, no matter how brutally honest. The band’s bouncy rhythms and memorable hooks will stick in your head on first listen, and their relatable lyrics and stories will have you singing and screaming along in no time.

Emerging quickly from the thriving Philadelphia punk scene, Grayscale has been at it since late 2011 building a strong reputation and gaining steam among fans and music lovers. Coming off of their successful Change EP release in April 2015, the band is now ready to unveil its latest and most complete collection of songs to date in their Anchor Eighty Four Records full-length debut, What We’re Missing.

“What We’re Missing is a collection of our thoughts, feelings, and stories from the past two years,” explains drummer Nick Veno. “It’s a very personal record for all of us. It’s brutally honest and revealing of certain happenings in our lives both happy and sad. Collin and Dallas are never afraid to call things as they see them, lyrically, and that kind of bluntness certainly didn’t change for this record. We held nothing back. We put everything that we had into these songs, leaving us completely unveiled and vulnerable, but in a way that was therapeutic. It allowed us to release the thoughts and feelings that were weighing us down, and tell each individual story from our perspective. We revealed our deepest emotion on this record, and I think people will take notice of that.”

Produced by Gary Cioffi (Transit, Misser, A Will Away) and mastered by Grammy Award winning engineer Brian Gardner (The Story So Far, Teagan & Sara, Kendrick Lamar) and featuring artwork by Daniel Fishel, What We’re Missing is sizing up to be an incredible release with stronger hooks, more intricate instrumentation and well-narrated stories. Grayscale is comprised of Walsh, Molster, Veno, Andrew Kyne, and Derek Parker.

1. Tense
2. Palette
3. Midwest
4. Say Something
5. Change (Alternate Version)
